GreenOps Methodology Enterprise-ready EU-first

The GreenOps Framework.
Five stages. Named deliverables.
Zero ambiguity.

GreenOps is the discipline of controlling cloud cost, carbon footprint, and AI governance together — not as separate workstreams. GreenPilot AI delivers it through a structured five-stage engagement designed for enterprise engineering and sustainability teams.

Built for enterprise teams · Named deliverable at every stage · CSRD & AI Act aligned
What is GreenOps

FinOps covers cost.
GreenOps covers cost, carbon, and governance — together.

FinOps is an established discipline for cloud financial management. GreenOps extends it: every cost decision is also a carbon decision, and every AI deployment is also a governance decision. For enterprise teams operating under CSRD, the EU AI Act, and NIS2, these cannot be managed in silos.

GreenPilot AI is building the GreenOps practice for European enterprise. We define the methodology, deliver the assessments, and transfer the capability to your team.

Cloud Cost Reduction

Idle resources, oversized compute, unattached storage. Found, prioritised, actioned with your approval.

Cloud Carbon Footprint

CO₂e estimates from cloud usage data and regional grid intensity. Labelled by confidence level for CSRD workflows.

AI Governance Readiness

Use-case scoping, responsible infrastructure, EU AI Act alignment, and LLM cost attribution for enterprise AI teams.

EU Regulatory Alignment

GDPR data residency, NIS2 risk posture, CSRD emissions reporting. Structured output for legal and compliance teams.

The Five Stages

Discover → Baseline → Prioritise → Implement → Enable

Each stage has a defined scope, a named deliverable you receive, and a clear entry and exit condition. No stage begins without your sign-off on the previous one.

01
Stage 1

Discover

Understand your environment, goals, and constraints before any data is collected.

Deliverable Discovery Brief

What happens

  • Stakeholder kickoff: CTO, Head of Engineering, Sustainability lead
  • Cloud environment scope definition (accounts, regions, workloads) across AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and other platforms
  • Business goals mapped: cost targets, CSRD reporting timeline, AI roadmap
  • Constraints documented: change freeze windows, compliance requirements
  • Read-only IAM role configured and verified

Discovery Brief contains

  • Agreed scope and out-of-scope boundaries
  • Stakeholder map and approval workflow
  • Business goals and success criteria
  • Engagement timeline and stage gates
No AWS data is collected until the Discovery Brief is signed off by your team.
02
Stage 2

Baseline

Collect and analyse your cloud environment data across cost, carbon, and governance dimensions.

Deliverable GreenOps Baseline Report

What happens

  • Read-only cloud data collection across AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and other platforms
  • 90-day cost history analysis across cloud billing APIs
  • Idle and oversized resource identification
  • CO₂e estimation using cloud usage data and regional grid intensity (IEA, EMBER, EEA)
  • EU governance configuration review: data residency, access patterns, NIS2 signals across cloud platforms
  • AI/LLM spend attribution across cloud AI services

GreenOps Baseline Report contains

  • Monthly waste estimate with per-service breakdown
  • CO₂e estimate labelled by confidence: measured / provider-allocated / modelled
  • EU governance observations (GDPR, NIS2, CSRD signals)
  • AI cost and carbon attribution (if in scope)
  • Executive summary for CTO and sustainability lead
Carbon estimates are indicative and labelled by confidence level. They are not a substitute for audited sustainability accounting.
03
Stage 3

Prioritise

Rank findings by business impact and implementation effort. Agree on what gets actioned first.

Deliverable Prioritised Action Plan

What happens

  • Findings review workshop with your engineering and sustainability teams
  • Each finding scored: cost impact, carbon impact, implementation effort, risk
  • Quick wins separated from structural changes
  • Rollback plan defined per action before any approval is requested
  • Governance findings routed to legal and compliance team

Prioritised Action Plan contains

  • Ranked action list: High / Medium / Low impact
  • Per-action: estimated saving, CO₂e reduction, effort, rollback procedure
  • Governance action list for compliance team
  • Agreed implementation sequence and timeline
Nothing is actioned until your team has reviewed and approved the Prioritised Action Plan.
04
Stage 4

Implement

Execute approved actions with your team. Every change is documented, reversible, and signed off before it runs.

Deliverable Implementation & Change Log

What happens

  • Each action executed only after explicit written approval
  • Changes made collaboratively with your engineering team
  • Rollback executed immediately if any issue is detected
  • Cost and carbon impact measured post-implementation
  • AI governance recommendations implemented where in scope

Implementation & Change Log contains

  • Record of every change: what, when, who approved
  • Before/after cost comparison per action
  • Before/after CO₂e estimate per action
  • Rollback procedures and status
  • Updated governance observation status
No automated production changes. Every action requires explicit approval. Access is revocable at any time.
05
Stage 5

Enable

Transfer GreenOps capability to your team so the discipline continues after the engagement ends.

Deliverable GreenOps Playbook

What happens

  • GreenOps workshop for your engineering and sustainability teams
  • Internal monitoring setup: cost anomaly alerts, carbon tracking cadence
  • AI governance checklist handed to your team
  • CSRD-relevant emissions data packaged for your reporting workflow
  • Quarterly review cadence agreed (optional ongoing engagement)

GreenOps Playbook contains

  • GreenOps operating model for your organisation
  • Cloud cost and carbon monitoring runbook
  • AI Governance Readiness checklist (EU AI Act aligned)
  • CSRD emissions data package
  • Recommended tooling and internal ownership map
The goal is capability transfer, not dependency. Your team should be able to run GreenOps independently after Stage 5.

Who it is for

Built for growing companies, mid-market teams, and enterprise organisations.

GreenOps engagements are designed for organisations running meaningful cloud or AI workloads — from scaling mid-market companies to large enterprise teams — where cost, carbon, and governance are becoming board-level concerns.

CTO / Head of Engineering

You need cloud cost under control and a defensible position on AI governance before the next board review. GreenOps gives you a structured process and documented evidence.

Head of Sustainability / ESG

Cloud and AI emissions may become relevant to sustainability reporting, supplier questionnaires, or value-chain data requests — especially for companies working with larger CSRD-reporting customers. GreenOps produces cloud CO₂e estimates labelled by confidence level, packaged for your reporting workflow.

General Counsel / Compliance

GDPR data residency, NIS2 risk posture, EU AI Act readiness. GreenOps surfaces configuration observations your legal team can act on — not raw data they have to interpret.

CFO / Finance

Cloud spend is growing. GreenOps identifies recoverable waste with per-action cost estimates, rollback plans, and a documented approval trail for finance governance.
